I think I will start with the phone call. My middle daughter, is a minimalist. She is the worst to go clothes shopping with, she is hard to punish cause she doesnt care what the punishment is. But when it comes to talking, especially when she is in trouble, its like trying to get a rock to speak.
Ok so the phone rings.... "hello" (this is me) "hello....hello"
and then I hear D (my daughter the 12 yo) "Hello". So I say it again "Hello" and she repeats "Hello". And so to humor her I say "Hello" again and this time she says nothing, apparently tiring of the game. But she stills says nothing, and I can hear her breathing, and some one teacher like saying something in the back ground. So I finally say "ok D what is going on" and I get silence, what seems like for ever but what was more like 5 seconds, and I hear the teacher person in the back ground say "well tell her why you are calling". I dont think she has tried to get a rock to talk before, or maybe she has, she is a middle school teacher. Finally after another life long 5 seconds D utters 4 words "I was chewing gum". At this point I let out my breath, cause I was thinking that she had got in a fight, or took a knife to school, or had threatened the teacher (lol not that she would do any of these things, cause despite her rock like qualities she is also the 2nd mama of the family, but knowing they were making her call home for something she did my mind went big). And I said....I know your all waiting for my scolding, and my anger, or my quiz on what kind she was chewing, but all my wisdom flew out of my head and I said "ok" and that was it. What kind of mother am I? And so she stays on for another 10 seconds doing her rock impression. And finally I hear the teacher say "let me talk to her". And so finally I get more of the story, she was chewing gum, this the second warning of the year which only started last week, and please dont give her any more gum.
Maybe I am a bad mom, but I really dont consider this a big enough offense to call home about. Of course I should mention my poor daughter gets her gum chewing obsession from me. I am a constant gum chewer, and yes I know lots of people think its a nasty habit. But hey my nails are finally growing. I think I must have been a beaver in my last life.
